On tour again with BNC!
I'm very excited to be starting my second UK tour with Beth Nielsen Chapman this weekend! And even better, this time round I'll get to open the shows for her.. I've had a lot of practising to do, but it's been a pleasure because I'm such a fan of her songs. Come out and hear us if we're playing near you - dates and venues are listed here
Ruth's playing a full band concert in her home village of Drumbo on Saturday 1st December 2012 to help raise money for a new village hall. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8.00pm start in Drumbo Presbyterian Church. The concert will include a special guest appearance by singer/songwriter Eilidh Patterson, and will feature the band members from Ruth's recent album launch. There is a suggested donation of £10 per ticket. To order tickets for the event, e-mail email@example.com.
Keep up to date with Ruth's '50 States In 50 Days' tour by reading her daily blogs!
There's been a lot of talk recently about the 50 States In 50 Days tour I'm starting this weekend with Kevin Montgomery, so I thought it was about time I explained exactly what it is we're doing over the next couple of months..
Starting in Alaska and finishing in Hawaii, we'll be playing a concert in a different US state every night until all 50 have been completed, running from 24th August to 12th October.
Why? To raise money for and promote the Orange Duffel Bag Foundation (ODBF), a charity that aims to provide coaching and support for youth (ages 12-24) who are in foster care or who have aged out, are homeless or at-risk. Check out the official website for more information. I'm also hoping to pick up some new fans along the way, that I wouldn't otherwise have had the chance to sing for..
As well as the concerts in each state, we'll be making a documentary that will hopefully impact on people's perception of the plight of kids aging out of foster care in America, interviewing affected young people along the way. It's a huge undertaking, and Kevin and I will struggle to complete it without your support..
What can you do?
- for our safety as we travel thousands of miles by road..
- for physical and emotional energy as we try to meet a very demanding schedule
- for patience when things inevitably don't go as we'd like
- for wisdom as we make decisions regarding concerts and interviewees
Profits from the tour will be going towards furthering the work of the ODBF, so the more we cut down on our expenses, the more money we raise for this worthy cause. If you'd like to contribute towards a tank of gas for the truck, or just a cup of coffee along the road, you can do so via paypal here.
If you're from the US or have friends/contacts there, let them know about the tour so that they can come out and support us if they're nearby. Venues are listed on my gigs page, and those yet to be arranged will be updated as soon as they are..
Encourage! You wouldn't believe how much a personal message helps when I'm struggling to be away from family and friends - particularly for this length of time. And this trip will be much more challenging than I'm sure I'm prepared for. So a quick 'hello' message, or a funny story from home will always go down well.
I'll try to get a blog out every day to let you all know where we've been and what I've learned/experienced. Keep an eye out for that on my blog page.
Thank you for caring!
